Restrict background data

Background syncing is also one of the main reason of mobile data consumption. Whenever you turn on your mobile data, all the installed apps start using your mobile internet to sync for new update, mail and other services like push notifications. Ensure to turn off Sync and enable restrict background data for apps.
To restrict background data for an app just go to the Data usage setting and tap on the app for which you want to restrict background data then tap to tick Restrict background data.

Turn of auto-update apps for mobile data. Just change the setting in Goolge Play Store under Menu –> Settings –> Auto-update apps and select either “Do not auto-update apps” or  “Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only”.

Swich to data saving browsers

Switch to the Opera mini browser as it’s designed to compress data and reduce your usage when browsing. Opera for android also comes with opera turbo which is compression service and compress images up to 80%.

Google Chrome for android also comes with a similar compression feature which could save up to 30-50% data also increase speed.

Install Onavo Extend

Install the Onavo Extend app on your android phone. It is designed to compress your data and potentially extend your data plan by up to five times. Onavo Extend app runs in the background and routes all data through the developer’s own servers, utilizing compression technology to reduce how much data you use.

Ads are not only annoying, but they are also consuming your mobile data. Just turn off the mobile data before opening the ad-supported app or go for ad-free version of an app, especially if you use it a lot.

If you have rooted your android phone then you can also try ad blocker apps.

Use Wi-Fi wherever possible

One of the best ways to save mobile data is to use wifi whenever possible. Most of us have Wi-Fi broadband at our home and office, so connect to it instead of your mobile data. Surfing on wifi also provides battery saving and better speeds.
