Union Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu today announced the annual rail budget that has laid immense emphasis on making our trains more mobile friendly. Here`s what the budget had in store in terms of making our trains more tech friendly:

SMS updates:

You will now receive updates regarding the delay or any change of timings of the train directly on your cell phone! It is however unclear how the people who haven`t booked their tickets online or registered their cell phone numbers will receive updates. Nonetheless, it is a positive move ahead and will certainly help keep commuters informed and save their time.

Official Complaints App:

Railway ministry will launch an app where you can register any of your complaints related to the railways.

More charging points inside the train:

The ministry has announced that more cell phone charging facilities will be added throughout the train and stations including the provision of charging points in general bogies.

Multilingual  e-portal:

E-portal for online ticket booking will be launched in a variety of regional languages.

E-Catering:

You can now order your food online at the time of ticket booking itself.

Free WiFi:

Free Wifi will be provided at 400 railway stations in the country including some category B stations. Wifi will be free for initial 30 mins. After that, the user must buy scratch cards costing Rs 25 for 30 minutes and Rs 35 for an hour and valid for 24 hours. These will be available at the dedicated Wifi help desk at the station.
