The tech giant ‘Google’ has released new AI-powered accessibility features for Pixel and Android device in 2024. From AI-powered camera features to captions expanding with more languages to more devices, these updated accessibility features have lot to give.

Google has tried to aim people with low vision, deaf, and those with speech impairment with new updated features as it’s a mission of Google to advance accessibility innovation by working for disability community.

New updated AI-powered Android accessibility features include-

    1. “GUIDED FRAME” for cameras to capture the perfect shot:

This AI-powered accessibility feature allows Pixel users to get spoken guidance of- angle camera position, lighting is low, putting face in proper frame, etc. It is very useful for people having low or loss vision to capture perfect shot with the amazing spoken guidance.

Improved object recognition, face filtering in group pic, ability to better focus on highlighted subject even in complex scene are some of the updates delivered by Guided Frame.

    1. “MAGNIFIER” to find information with Pixel camera:

If users want to search for specific word, they can zoom into the surrounding with their pixel camera and all information will be at their fingertip, whether it is for reading sign boards, find for any dish on the menu or looking for departure time at airport.

Picture-in-picture mode is added in the feature which will show zoomed-out image in smaller window while the searched word will be shown in bigger window.

Front camera can also be used for the same feature, as a mirror for user’s touch up. It is available on Google Play Store for Pixel 5 and up devices.

    1. New “LIVE TRANCRIBE MODE” for foldable phones:

Live Transcribe on Android used to get real-time transcriptions of speech. But the new Live Transcribe mode is launched with dual-screen mode for foldable phones only, making the feature more feasible for the users.

The dual-screen mode allows users to easily set phone in tabletop posture to provide better visibility to speakers so that speakers could see their own transcription during conversation with the help of Live Transcribe.

    1. LIVE CAPTION and LIVE TRANSCRIBE in more different languages:

Live Caption on Android is used to provide the users real-time caption for any sound plays on their device across all apps on device. Through the new update on Live Caption, ’Google’ has added more languages like- Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Turkish and Vietnamese to increase the credibility and availability of the feature.

New update has brought these seven languages on Live Transcribe as well.

One more interesting thing is that users can have access to use Live Transcribe in up to “15 languages” even when they are offline, and with internet connection Live Transcribe will work in over “120 languages.”

Well, it’s very good initiative taken by Google to work for disability community by bringing such types of features, as real innovation will only come if all community in our society will equally get accessible of technology.
