Gmail checkmark feature will soon roll out to Android phones in which the app will start displaying checkmark next to verified senders to minimize scams.

    Gmail checkmark feature

As digital mailing service started existing, email scams has been increased a lot. To tackle this problem, last year new feature launched to Gmail in which it started showing a checkmark next to verified senders, which gives confirmation that they are the authentic party as they are claiming.

And now, Gmail app is all set to bring the same feature of ‘showing checkmark’ on Android phones in coming weeks, as it has been announced by Google that a checkmark next to verified senders will be started displaying in the Gmail app for Android.

How the sender will get Gmail checkmark symbol?

For getting checkmark symbol, the senders need to adopt Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) and have a registered trademark with a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC).

This will provide guarantee that the associated domain name belongs to particular company, which will make it harder for scammers to impersonate known brands.

Also, Gmail will now support BIMI’s Common Mark Certificate (CMC) in which if the sender has a CMC but not a VMC, then only its avatar form will be shown by the Gmail without a verified checkmark.

It has been said by the Google that the new feature of verified checkmarks will only be appear in the official Gmail app. Users will not be able to see the symbol if they use third-party to see email on their Android phone.

From the next week, the new Gmail checkmark feature will start rolling out to Android phones. Users need to install the latest version of Gmail app to see the update.
