November 16, 2024 – Google Docs image generation feature powered by AI has been introduced by Google which is nothing but an expansion of generation of full-bleed cover images for documents using Gemini in Google Docs.
Using this new feature, users can generate high-quality inline images in Docs. This feature is powered by Google’s Imagen 3 image generation model which helps in creating photorealistic images of people, landscapes, and more with a simple text prompt.
To generate an image, users need to navigate to the Insert menu and need to select “Help me create an image” option in the Image sub-menu. A new ‘Create an image panel’
This new feature is powered by Google’s latest Imagen 3 generator, which provides improved detail, better lighting, and fewer distractions than earlier models. This enables it to create life-like images, scenery, and other subjects using text prompts.
For now, the new feature “Create an Image” is only available to Google Workspace subscribers and will soon be rolled out to Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium, and Google One AI Premium plan users.
The schedule for the rollout is as follows:
- Rapid-release domains will have access within 15 days from November 15,
- scheduled release domains will have access from December 16 onward.
This is the same as Microsoft’s AI-generated art features for its office products that allow users to create full cover images or inline photos that fit within the document’s layout.

Videos can also be created using Gemini by Google Workspace users from prompts for customer service, training, and marketing purposes making Gemini a versatile tool for productivity and creativity.
The ability of the new feature has been praised by many early users as it helps in quickly generating images that would otherwise require considerable time and effort to create. And, not only users’ time will be saved but also they will be able to focus on other important aspects of their work.
