Google is finally rolling out Gemini Extensions for WhatsApp, Phone, and Messages, which was announced in late October. They can help you in various possible forms, like by making phone calls or WhatsApp calls or sending WhatsApp messages just by listening to your instructions or by providing proper prompts.
Gemini Extensions for Messages:
The user’s phone default messaging app will be used by the extensions to send messages, along with helping to compose and edit/rewrite messages for users. The prompts available for Gemini extensions for messages are:
- Send a message to [contact name].
- Text [contact name] [message].
- Ask [contact name] [question].
- Help me write a congratulations message to [contact name] on their 50th anniversary.
There are some limitations to this extension, as the messages can’t be read/summarized, images (or other media) cannot be added, or message notifications cannot be read by the messages extension.

Gemini Extensions for Phone can help you by ‘making a call for you’, which can be in a natural and conversational way. Different types of calls can be done using extensions, using different prompts
Call your contacts and particular phone numbers:
I need to talk to [contact name]. Can you call them?

- Call [contact full name]
- Can you call [phone number]?
Call based on Conversation:
- Show me some good salons near my location.
- After Gemini’s response: Summarize the reviews for the fourth one.
- After Gemini’s response: Ok, call this Salon
Call a business or organization:
- Can you call the nearest hospital?
- Call the closest [cuisine] restaurant
- Call [business or organization name]

Gemini Extensions for WhatsApp is the first third-party extension that can help users in making calls and sending messages using proper prompts.
Send a message:
- Send a WhatsApp message to [contact name].
- Ask [contact name] [question] on WhatsApp.
Make a call:
- I need to talk to [contact name]. Can you call them on WhatsApp?
- Call [contact first name]’s [mobile, home, work] number with WhatsApp.

These Gemini Extensions for WhatsApp, phone, and messages are enabled by default. However, the extensions are not widely available as they are rolling out gradually, so it may take some time to get visible on everyone’s devices.
