Tech News

Swatch is set to lead the android bandwagon in the emerging smartwatch market against Apple`s much-awaited iWatch. The iconic Swiss watch maker will launch its smartwatch within the next three months according to Swatch CEO Nicolas Hayek.

Unlike iWatch, Swatch`s smartwatch will support Android and Windows. The standout feature will be the battery backup with Hayek claiming the smartwatch ” won`t require charging”. Swatch have vast experience in developing super-thin batteries and the aforementioned  feature could give the product a significant advantage over Apple`s iWatch which will require charging almost daily. It will also have a Near Field Communication chip which will enable mobile payments but it may require pairing with a windows or Andriod device. Swatch is also said to be in touch with Swiss retail firms Coop and Migros to develop its mobile payment system. Apple on the other hand will rely on ‘ Apple Pay` for its mobile payment functionality. It reamins unclear whether Swatch`s smartwatch will be compatible with iOS devices.

Apple`s iWatch is set to roll out in April and will be priced at 349$. It will be interesting to see the pricing policy adopted by Swatch as they may try to keep their prices significantly lower to remain competitive.

The stakes are high in the smartwatch industry as the market is  expected to grow to $10 billion in next 3 years and coming months will see some interesting developments as Apple`s much talked-about iWatch will lock horns against its formidable new  Swiss competitor.
